Weepers

Two weepers.

Weepers are sufferers of the rat plague in the last stages of disease progression, who have discolored skin and subconjunctival haemorrhages, which cause blood to drip from their eyes in a tear-like fashion, hence their title.

In appearance, aside from their bloody tears, weepers are very gaunt, and often experience hair loss. Accompanying this, rats will not attack weepers.

Weepers are barely sentient, and will attack any healthy human in order to spread the plague. However, weepers will not notice a lot of their surroundings; Corvo can bypass the whole groups through hiding and making little noise.

Combat

  • Weepers produce a lot of moaning noise; upon hearing weeper cries, it is best to locate the source quickly in order to avoid being attacked unexpectedly.
  • In combat, weepers act as a common zombie-like enemies: upon seeing Corvo, they run up to him and attack in melee. Due to lack of any significant defence, and to simple combat tactics, weepers are easily disposed of with any conventional weapon. It's also possible to avoid them altogether, as weepers do not actively search the area around them.
  • The weeper's most dangerous attack is their vomiting attack. If you allow a weeper to get close enough, they will hold Corvo and vomit on him, causing him to take damage.
  • It is recommended to use ranged weapons or sneak attacks to dispose of weepers as they can cause damage in close combat, especially in groups.

Trivia

  • Every time Corvo Attano uses the Heart to determine secrets about weepers, it has a chance to state that they have decided to attack uninfected people to spread the plague.
  • Thaddeus Campbell can be found as a weeper in the Flooded District if Corvo chooses to deal with him non-lethally.
  • Note that not all the weepers are hostile; on some occasions, plague victims still hold to their sanity and can provide some useful advice.
