- Samara hosts a school for courtesans, according to one of the girls at the Golden Cat.
- Samara is the location from which Pratchett imports his canned Jellied Eels. The label on the can reads: 'Samara Island Canning Company'. Advertisements for the Pratchett Warehouse also include the slogan: 'For the best Tyvian produce. Look for the Pratchett Brand!'
