The symbol of the Dead Eel gang, which possibly depicts three Morleyan eels.

Morleyan eels are a species of marine creatures native to the island of Morley. The eels are massive, often hunt near coastal areas by smashing preys against rocks then quickly disappear back down into the depths.

People in Alba believe the eels are the messengers of the dead, and the large splashes caused by them indicate that their deceased relatives are near. During the famed Festival of Churners, they would toss foods to the eels, in hope of feeding their lost loved ones. Dead eels are considered the worst of luck by Alban fishermen so even though fishing is one of the main livelihood in Morley, caught eels are always thrown back into the sea.[1]

Trivia

  • Some said that Lizzy Stride, who hailed from Morley, named her gang the Dead Eels after the Morleyan eels.[1]
  • The Historical Museum of Alba has a life-size statue of a Morleyan eel, which was cast in gold and has gems for eyes. It's rumored to be an artifact with mystical powers, a gift from one of the witches who saved the island in the past.[2]
