We’re reaching out to a few of our top communities, hoping to get you on board with the migration to the new infobox markup. And we have tools to help!
Why we’re doing this
Simply put: Most current infobox structure translates very poorly to mobile experiences, and indeed any device that doesn’t use desktop-style displays. On desktops and laptops, they often look amazing. The problem is that Wikia’s traffic is trending mobile.
We partnered with the Wikia community to create this new markup to make sure that your hard work can be displayed on mobile devices (as well as any future technologies) easily and without any new coding conventions. It’ll take some effort up front, to be sure, but we’re here to help, and the work you put in now will pay for itself tenfold in the future.
Tools we’ve designed to ease the process
We’ve enabled two new features on your community. One is a tool for migrating the “old” infobox code to the new markup. It identifies templates on your wikia that look like infobox templates and places a box on the right rail of the template page. When you click the “Generate draft markup” button in this box, it opens a new tab containing a draft of your infobox using the new markup.
The second is a new feature on Special:Insights that will highlight which infoboxes on your wikia have not been migrated to the new infobox markup. It’s fairly intuitive - you can click on the infobox title link itself to see the old markup, or simply click the “Convert!” button on the right, which performs the same action as the “Generate draft markup” button.
Sorry for butting in aswell but I also made a variant of the table as per Undead.exe's suggestion. Flipping the row and column orientations gets rid of the scrollbar, but some of the text is still squished a bit :/
I'm trying to figure out how the audio buttons could be made smaller. I know that Elder Scrolls Wiki has customised ones that are quite small (e.g. in quote and bottom of infobox). I'm guessing that some modifications will have to be made to MediaWiki or maybe some sort of template will have to be created. I'll get back to you if I get anywhere with that. (Edit: by the way my variant of the table looks more or less identical even if the audio buttons are removed so it may or may not actually make a difference. Judging by Blood Ox's variants, having a smaller button may improve the original's formatting).
Edit 2: I tried out the other suggestion of reducing the font size (also on my sandbox) and it basically makes no difference but has the added annoyance of being more difficult to read. So I think that option can be safely ruled out!
Seeing how they jump at each other's throat a few posts below, I'd say what a great community wikia's central has. .__.
Anyway, I think Iwantacallisto's alternative for the table reorganizes it well. I'll just suggest adding a legend to the page to indicate the way to read the speeches (top top bottom and left to right).
Thanks to the help of someone on Community Central, I now know how to reduce the size of the audio buttons. However, the bigger problem with the audio is actually when you press play. By default, the play bar takes up more space than the button itself. It turns out that multiple other tables are affected when you play all the audio in them at once (High Overseer Campbell, Lady Boyle's Last Party, Return to the Tower). The tables go off the page and no scroll bar appears, making them unreadable.
Thankfully, the person on CC also told be how to reduce the size of the playbar. At 66% its original size, most of the tables look perfect apart from the second Knife of Dunwall one and Drapers Ward Riverfront. With the columns and rows inverted however, Drapers Ward Riverfront looks fine. I'm guessing the same would be true for the KoD table.
If you want to try out what I'm seeing for yourselves, add the following code to dishonored.wikia.com/wiki/User:Your_username/wikia.css
Thanks for the help, everyone! Switching the row and columns seems to work for the Drapers Ward one, though having only two tables switched might be confusing, but yeah, we could just say top to bottom or left to right, so hopefully it wouldn't be much of a problem. And if shrinking the audio buttons and playbars helps too, then I'm all for it.
Okay so having thought about it again, I think reducing the size of the red audio button will make almost no difference since it's around the same size as the audio bar at 66% zoom. Just changing the size of the audio button should still solve the problem for every table apart from the 2 that will have to be inverted anyway. It also means that you can tell how much space the audio will take up when playing even if you don't test it out.
Bless you for looking into this Essie, and I'm sorry you had to deal with jerkery. Sadly I've experienced similar aggression Wikia Central, but try not to let it get to you. You're doing a great job and asking great questions. :)
The user http://dishonored.wikia.com/wiki/Special:Contributions/VxD tried to add a link for the French Dishonored Wiki yesterday. And while in source code everything looked correct, the link appeared as invalid, so I undid the edit for now. I tried to fix it, but the same problem occured for me.
I was told that you're the best person to contact on this. I encountered a weird bug in which I was unable to reply to a certain comment, when I would try it would say "Database locked $1" Sorry if I'm not posting this to the right person but thank you for your time
