Howling bolts are a type of crossbow ammunition available in Dishonored 2. They can be found around Karnaca, or purchased from black market shops.
When howling bolts hit an enemy, the enemy is temporarily blinded. If a howling bolt is shot at a surface, it makes sounds that attract or distract enemies. Howling bolts have two Masterwork upgrades that take effect when they come into contact with a surface: Ancient Howl, which causes witches to flee, and Deep Howl, which causes wolfhounds to flee.
If Corvo Attano or Emily Kaldwin are hit by a howling bolt, their vision is blurred and their movement and dexterity are severely restricted for a few seconds.
