Whale slaughterhouse

Painting of a whale slaughterhouse.

The Greaves Auxiliary Whale Slaughterhouse 5 is a slaughterhouse belonging to the Greaves Lightning Oil company and located in Slaughterhouse Row. It is featured in the novels Dishonored: The Corroded Man and Dishonored: The Return of Daud.

Details[]

The Greaves Auxiliary Slaughterhouse 5 is located at the far eastern side of Slaughterhouse Row, by the Wrenhaven River. It was designed to handle the overflow from other slaughterhouses of the Greaves company, separated from them by a couple of streets of warehousing. The facility has been closed by the company a couple of years after the coronation of Empress Emily Kaldwin, focusing their efforts on more modern facilities close to the harbor mouth in the west. The building remained intact but is slowly decaying with the lack of maintenance.

The building itself is as large as a city block. The back of the edifice protrudes on the river, with its own wharf and boat dock. The factory floor houses several long rows of oil vats, along as cranes to suspend whales while their Whale Oil was extracted. Catwalks run above the place and an elevated control room overlooks the area.[1] A tall set of double doors open up on the bay where trawlers unloaded their catch. A crane system would then bring the whale inside, above the oil vats. The building and its control room are no longer working, with most of their wiring and electric parts picked apart to be sold on the black market.[2] Below the factory floor are storerooms down a flight of stone stairs.[3]

The Corroded Man[]

By the Month of Darkness 1851, the Auxiliary Slaughterhouse has yet to find a new owner, and is used as hideout by the new Whalers gang led by Zhukov and Galia Fleet.[4] On the 15th day of the month, most of the building was destroyed in the fight between the gang and both Emily Kaldwin and Corvo Attano. What was left of the place was then cordoned off by the City Watch and the Abbey of the Everyman. The building was searched and the nearby river dragged for the remains of both Zhukov and his magic artifacts, most notably his Twin-bladed Knife.

The Return of Daud[]

Eight months later, Daud investigates the slaughterhouse for hints about the knife. The place is still patrolled by City Watch Guards and Warfare Overseers but the search effort led to nothing yet.
