Whaling Trawler Eminent Domain TKoD

A whaling trawler.

Whaling trawlers are large water-faring vessels that are used to capture whales, and are the backbone of Dunwall's economy.

The first whaling trawler fleet were commissioned by Emperor Finlay Morgengaard's in 1631. They were powered by sails and, even though heavily dependent on winds, helped establish the flourishing whaling industry.[1]

The modern-day trawlers, first designed by Anton Sokolov, are larger steam-powered vessels.[1] After the harpoon gun on the bow weakens a whale, a hook pulls the mammal up through a chute onto the deck of the ship, and transported to slaughterhouses, such as the Rothwild Slaughterhouse. Following this, it is then strung from an H-framed crane and harvested, primarily for its blubber, which is then later refined into whale oil.

Trivia[]

  • In the first episode of The Tales from Dunwall, Sokolov can be seen proposing a new type of whaling trawler to Esmond Roseburrow. The design includes mounted speargun, oil powered hook and rigging system, and even cannons.
  • The Bundry Best, flagship of Rothwild Slaughterhouse's whaling fleet, is a combination of whaling trawler and warship.[2]
