He is City Watch guard but he works as a prison guard for Lady Julie Coldridge after he learns from Leonard about her sending him to prison. Leonard contacts him and tells him about his location then Ethan tells him his plan so he could leave the city unharmed. He asks his father Dominic for help who agrees him to help him. He contacts a group of escaped Morleyan war prisoners who has planned to ambush Lady Julie Coldridge's caravan and assassinate her.
Ethan Finchley meets the prisoner and he reassures them that he is willing to act as an insider for them but in exchange for a help. He tells them about his lover Leonard and his plan so he could escape the city by reaching the mouth of the Wrenhaven River where his father Dominic will be waiting for him. After helping Ethan and he keeps his promise. Ethan tells them that the best time to assassinate Lady Coldridge is during the Fugue Feast as they would suffer no legal repercussion for the act.
Ethan reveals that Lady Coldridge planed to move to Poolwick and will let City Watch sweep out Dunwall of Morleyans protesters. Then he leaves the prisoner experiences a vision of Ethan and his father's fate based on the overall Chaos.
