Possible depiction of the Devourer.
Devourer is a mythical creature that roams the sea between the Empire of the Isles and the Far Continent. It is said to be bigger than any ship that has ever been built. Some claim it's a whale but there is no known whale that can rival its size. Other say it's a sea monster with tentacles. Few witnesses survived an encounter with the Devourer, most others were not so fortunate as little was left in its wake.[1]
The Devourer had many names throughout history, among them are Behemoth, Titan, and Outsider's Messenger. The first sighting of the creature dated back to the early days of the Empire but in some of the ancient ruins, there are rock carvings that seemingly depict the creature. There are tales of strange phenomena such as whirlpools appearing out of nowhere or giant splashes of water, but no one can truly prove its existence.[1]
Trivia
- The painting Serkonan Legends, Old Sea Beast depicts a creature resembles the Devourer's description.
- Emily's drawing of sea creatures was done on a poster which showcases a giant tentacled monster attacking a ship.
- At the end of the High Overseer Campbell mission, at the Hound Pits Pub, Samuel mentioned that "Sailors tell tales of monsters far out to sea".
- In a personal audiograph, Bundry Rothwild notes that one of his ships, the Huntress, was dry-docked after something rammed it at night off the coast of Pandyssia. The audiograph goes on to say engineers who examined the damage weren't sure if it was from a whale, but if it was, it was a very odd-looking one.
