Butchersaw

Concept art for the Butcher's Saw.

Some butchers at Rothwild Slaughterhouse use a Butcher's Saw, both when working and when engaging in combat. They are advanced cutting tools, developed by Rothwild's top mechanists after hearing Sokolov's complaint about the inefficiency of their previous devices.[1] Butcher's Saws consist of a large circular saw connected to a set of small whale oil tanks mounted on a harness. Shortly before the events of A Captain of Industry, the saws used at the Rothwild Slaughterhouse were modified to include a chip ejector, which expels metal fragments at a high velocity.[2] This functionality is intended to aid in carving hard-to-reach areas in whale carcasses, however it also allows them to be used against opponents beyond melee range.

As a handheld weapon, Butcher's Saws have the potential to be some of the deadliest in the series. Even on lower difficulties, butchers wielding these can kill Daud very quickly in melee combat. Individual shards from the chip ejector do less damage and tend to be less accurate than most other ranged weapons in the series, however the ejector's rapid-fire effect and long maximum range more than compensate for these downsides.

Daud is unable to use Butcher's Saws, however he can salvage them for coin. Each Butcher's Saw is worth 20 coin, though this is not counted towards any level's coin total.

The saw's mechanism is explained in detail in the manual Operating a Butcher's Saw, found at the Rothwild Slaughterhouse.
